WOOD & SONS - Aquila

Another very attractive blue and white design by Frederick Rhead, featuring a strikingly fierce eagle. There is also a RED version of this pattern.

Most AQUILA items have the HH&G Toby Jug backstamp rather than a Woods mark, signifying they were made for the retailers HALES, HANCOCK & GODWIN. Items are occasionally found with the familiar Woods urn mark.

The Reg No 718718 dates the AQUILA design to 1926+.

AQUILA was produced in two versions:

  • Indented rim with ochre trim.
This distinctive shape is also found on other Frederick Rhead patterns such as STANLEY and NILE.
  • Gadrooned rim (piecrust) without ochre trim. Examples of this can be found on the JUGS page (see below)
