William de Morgan

Celebrated English potter and designer, known for his art nouveau tiles and vases, which were influenced by Persian Isnik ceramics.

From c. 1869 onwards De Morgan experimented with lustre glazes, including the pink 'ruby lustre' shown below.

Ruby lustre vase
with silver neck

8.375 ins high
3 ins wide
(silver top)
5.5 ins
(widest diameter)

This is a rare and beautiful example of a De Morgan vase, in excellent condition.

The impressed 'tulips' mark dates it to 1882-88, when De Morgan shared premises at Merton Abbey with Pre-Raphaelite designer William Morris.
