Copeland/Spode - Red Roses

This pattern dates from the first period of Josiah Spode, 1805-20.

The border has a beautiful network of fine spirals in typical Spode fashion; it is known as the 'ships border' after a pattern depicting ships in a harbour - an example can be seen in the Spode Museum in Stoke-on-Trent.
