J&R Godwin

The firm of John & Robert Godwin produced earthenwares in Cobridge, Staffordshire, 1834-66. We only stock one Godwin pattern, a version of the COLOURED WILLOW design. See also our Gaudy Willow page.

Coloured Willow

This elegant variant on the traditional WILLOW pattern is handpainted in a range of colours on a black transfer. Older items in this design are often unmarked, making their exact age hard to determine. Distinguishing features include a single bird with green colouring on its wings.

The images below show the differences in design and colouring between the GODWIN, WEDGWOOD and ASHWORTH versions of Coloured Willow pattern.
